Jake – from Rescue to Champion

By admin on January 23, 2016

Almost Home Alumni, Jake and his Mom share his success story:

Rescue Puppy to World Champion

This is Jake our little fluffy puppy that we adopted from Almost Home. Jake’s Mom was found on the side of the road, pregnant and in bad shape.  She was an unwanted momma but our rescue partners stepped in.  The found a wonderful foster Mom who raised the litter and then came to Almost Home to find their forever homes.  This is where we stepped in and decided to foster 2 puppies from the litter.  Jake is the little fluffy puppy below.  We fostered him for 2 weeks and fell in love and decided to adopt him and make him our 3rd Almost Home dog. He was a smart little puppy (ok not so little, 7.5 lbs at 8 weeks old).  He slept through the night and went up and down our full flight of deck stairs with no problem.

We started him out with puppy classes and some swimming, then to beginner and intermediate obedience classes.  He also passed his canine good citizen test.  We have competed in dock diving with our dog, Halle, for a number of years and decided to see how Jake would like the water.  I remember telling my friend, I’m not sure if he will like dock diving but we will give it a try.

Fast forward to last year; Jake competed in various venues for dock diving.  He was invited to the dockdogs World Championships with his sister last November and competed in Senior Big Air and Cadet Extreme Vertical.  With over 40 different teams in his division, Jake won 1st in Senior (distance of 15 ft – 19’11”) big air with a jump of 20’!  He came in 3rd in his division in Extreme Vertical.

Give rescue dogs a chance; commit to them, build a relationship and love them unconditionally.  Adopt your best friend and see what journey you can go on. You never know what is possible…even from a rescue dog no one wanted!  #almosthomefoundation  #rescuesrock
