Volunteer Opportunities

 

Coordinator Positions

  1. Volunteer Coordinator

o       Coordinate Volunteer meetings.  Introduce new volunteers to available volunteer opportunities.

  1. Foster Home Coordinator

o       Responsible for determining suitability of a foster home.  Responsible for keeping their names and addresses available.  Responsible for actively seeking new foster homes.

  1. Fundraising Event Coordinators

o       Responsible for getting volunteers and all activities to accomplish the fundraiser.

  1. Newspaper Advertising Coordinator

o       Responsible for placing ads in the paper for our Adoption Shows or any fundraiser for which we want to advertise

  1. Dog Walker Coordinator

o        Responsible for scheduling volunteers for twice daily dog walks.  Volunteers who cannot make the walk must let the Dog Walker Coordinator know so another volunteer can be found.

  1. Petfinder Coordinator – Paul Blenkle

o       Responsible for getting the pictures from the photographer and bios on the animals.  Update Petfinders.  Communicate with Web coordinator to ensure Web site and Petfinder are in sync.

  1. Adoption Coordinator – Linda Wyka

o       Responsible for scheduling volunteers to weekly adoption shows.  Responsible for scheduling dog pick-up and handler for each adoption show. Responsible for interviewing candidates for a dog.  Responsible for finding someone to do homecheck for animal. 

  1. Medical Records Coordinator – Claire Sleigh

o       Responsible for keeping track of all medicals done for each dog.  Each dog must have rabies, parvo/distemper, and bordatella innoculations, a heartworm test, and be spayed/neutered.  The Medical Coordinator will give the dog it’s first heartworm pill and turn date over to Heartworm Pill Coordinator.  Medical coordinator will keep track of any further meds given such as flea control, kennel cough meds, worm med, etc.

  1. Medical Authorization(s) – Board Members

o       Responsible for signing authorizations needed for medical attention

  1. Publicity Coordinator/Community Fest Coordinator

o       Responsible for gathering volunteers to cover the community fest.  Responsible for working with the municipality to apply and get booth for fests.  Responsible for ensuring brochures and any literature, photos, etc are available to pass out. 

  1. Newspaper Article Coordinator

o       Responsible for working with local papers to get articles about AHF or any of our animals printed.

  1. Mailing Coordinator

o       Responsible for getting mailings sent.  This includes gathering volunteers as needed to address, stuff envelopes, etc.  This also includes getting stamps or bulk rate needed for mailings

 

 

Fundraising

  1. Fundraising Volunteer(s)

o       Responsible for being part of a fundraising event.  Responsible for doing those activities needed for the particular fundraising event.

 

Writing

  1. Newsletter Editor – Linda Blackman

o       Responsible for writing or gathering article for newsletter.  Responsible for desktop publishing the newsletter.

  1. Photographer – Paul Blenkle

o       Take pictures of the animals.  Send to web coordinator and petfinder coordinator.  Attend all events to capture pictures for Newsletter, Web or any publicity.

 

 

Membership Drive

  1. Mailing Volunteer(s)

o       Responsible for being part of a membership event.  Responsible for doing those activities needed for the mailing out information.  Examples include: data entry to update mailing list, stuffing envelopes, trips to post office… etc.

 

Phone

  1. Follow Up Calls –

o        phone calls to ensure dog and family doing ok

  1. Return Phone Calls from Newspaper

o       Responsible for receiving phone calls from newspaper ads.  Must be able to talk easily with strangers. 

  1. Return Phone Calls from AHF Number

o       Responsible for receiving phone calls from our AHF Phone message.  Must be able to talk easily with strangers. 

 

Web

  1. Web Update Coordinator(s)

o       Responsible for adding new dogs to web.  Responsible for updating any pages that are required such as new dog, events,

 


 

Health

  1. Heartworm Pills Coordinator

o       Responsible for keeping track of each dog’s timing for the heartworm pill. 

  1. Microchip Tech

o       Responsible for scheduling and actually microchipping the dog.

  1. Animal Welfare Coordinator - Claire

o       Responsible for looking at animals on daily basis to ensure they are well.  If not, responsible for seeking medical attention for the animal.

 

Public Affairs

  1. Municipality Negotiator/Coordinator

o       Responsible for negotiating terms with municipalities. 

  1. Education Coordinator

o       Responsible for creating any literature needed for education.  Responsible for working with city’s, school’s, etc.  to discuss animal issues and welfare.

 

 

Dog Help

  1. Dog Walker

o       As scheduled by the Dog Walker Coordinator, go to the kennel and walk the number of dogs assigned at the time assigned.  If you cannot make it, you must either get a replacement, or  notify the Dog Walker Coordinator ASAP

  1. Dog Trainer

o       Identify the needs of each dog.  Train the dog using humane methods.  Train people handling the dog – such as the dog walkers and adoption coordinators on how to handle the dog properly.

  1. Dog Adoption Counselor

o       Picking up the dog at the kennel.  Hold the dog ensuring it’s safety and the safety of people.  Chat with people on the personality and characteristics of the animal.  Refer anyone that seems like a good candidate to the Adoption Show Coordinator

  1. Dog Groomer

o       Wash, trim, cut nails, clean ears, etc.  for the dog(s).

  1. Dog Socializer

o       Pick up dog from the kennel.  Drive to dog training/ socialization.  Handle dog while basic obedience training is given.  Socialize the dog with other dogs looking for warning signs (hair up on back, tail up and motionless, etc).

 

Cat Help

  1. Cat Evaluator

o       Assist in determining if cats or kittens are feral.  If so, help assess if they can be turned into adoptable pets

  1. Cat Care Giver

o       If we are able to get places in pet stores to hold the cats, we will need care givers to tend to the animals daily
